For the following questions, assume that parallel processing can take place. This means that more than one activity is going on at any point in time.

1. Since the cookie sheets can hold exactly 1 dozen cookies, BBCC will produce and sell cookies by the dozen. How much time will it take to fill an order of 2, 3, or 4 dozen cookies?
2. Assuming each order is for 2 dozen cookies, what is the production capacity in cookies per hour and takt time of this process?
3. What is the WIP inventory level if demand is from customers ordering 1 dozen at a time if the system consists of 2 ovens and Billy is working alone? (Assume that there is a backlog of orders so the bottleneck is always in the production process.)

Scenario 2: Dewey Cheatem & Howe Law Firm A law rm specializes in the issuance of insurance policies covering large commercial real estate projects. The projects fall into two categories: shopping centers and medical complexes. The typical work involved in each transaction is quite predictable and repetitive. For a given month the rm operates for 20 days and receives 75 orders of each type. If there is no waste that has not been accounted for what is the theoretical capacity of the process stated in contracts per day? 8. Given the current staff levels, can the company process all 150 cases this month? 9. If the rm expects to receive 200 cases next month, how many professionals of each type are needed? 10. If the capacity waste factors of the paralegals, tax attorneys, and senior partners are 20%, 30%, and 35% respectively, what is the effective capacity of the process with the number of workers calculated in question 9? (Round up to an integer number of workers. Note that capacity is reduced by the waste factors.)
