Scenario
You are a program manager at a large ambulatory clinic, and today you must assign an IT member of your project staff to an ongoing project. This assignment will cause another area to be understaffed, but it must be done now. The assignment is a difficult one, with high visibility and strong personalities. Whom should you send? All your best people are already assigned in other areas, and you have only two other available staff members from which to choose.
The first person, Shawna, is very knowledgeable and able to work quickly, but frequently uses a win-lose communication style. You have come close to formally reprimanding her twice.
The second person, Stacy, is adequately knowledgeable but is very shy. Simply stated, he works alone. You have noticed on a few occasions that Stacy, when forced to communicate, tends to use a lose-win style.
You expect to be able to replace your choice as soon as one of your more seasoned staff members becomes available, but that may be a week or more away.
