Select an important process in a manufacturing/software organisation. Identify the start

and end points of the process and the activities within the process, in sequence.

If the standard time of each activity has not been recorded in the past, use a stopwatch for this

purpose (ask the faculty how to determine the standard time from multiple timing trials).

Select a process with multiple activities (15 to 25 would be suitable).

Required:

1 Draw the Process Chart for the process chosen using accepted conventions.

2 Conduct a ratio analysis exercise on how the time in the process is being used.

3 Determine the cycle time and throughput time of the process.

4 Review the process for improvement. Establish a benchmark to which you would like to

improve the process' performance.

5 Conduct a process improvement exercise (single iteration).
