SERVICE PROJECT PLAN ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW This is part 1 of a three-part assignment:

  • Part 1 - Service project plan paper
  • Part 2 - Implementation of service project
  • Part 3 - Presentation of implementation

The purpose of this assignment is to actively learn and practice servant leadership by leading, coordinating, and executing a team service project involving the assistance of others working as a team.

INSTRUCTIONS You will prepare a 1-2 page paper (utilizing the template provided) presenting specific elements of your chosen service project. Your service project must be approved by your professor before implementation.

Learning to work within and practice leadership in diverse teams is a major curriculum element in each of the School of Aeronautics' degree programs. This assignment provides a unique opportunity to put leadership theory and principles into practice for selfless service for others.

Objectives:

  1. Create a detailed plan for leading and accomplishing a team service project.
  2. Gain understanding and experience in leading a diverse team in planning a project.
  3. Gain understanding and experience in the complexities of planning a team project.

You will plan an event in which you will enlist at least two other persons to join you in serving others in a service project. This should be done in the context of an aviation-related event or location, but if that cannot be arranged, another location or event may be approved by the course professor by sending an email request. You may utilize family members to assist you, but there should be at least one non-family member on your team, and the people being served may not be family members (hopefully you lead and serve them everyday).

Steps: Develop a plan (up to two pages in length):

  • Develop specific objectives, actions, and timelines.
  • Develop a contingency plan for cases when the original plans cannot be completed.
  • Consider utilizing action ideas of your own personal leadership strengths as identified in the StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment.
  • Consider strengths, talents, and interests of those on your team for their effectiveness in contributing to the team effort and executing your plan.

Be sure to utilize the provided template. Delete the italized descriptions, but keep all bolded headings.

NOTE: Objectives should be specific. You can use the SMART objective format as an aid to developing objectives. See York book for SMART objective format and description.

Next, put your plan into real life action. Once your plan is approved, you will have the next couple weeks to actually implement this plan and then finally present how your service implementation went during Module 7: Week 7 of this course.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
