Minimum 100 words per question. 3 questions. 16 marks (LO 1,2,3) A PhD holder from MIT in the USA, in telecommunications, Dr Sanad Jasim has been the CEO of Al-Tawasul Telecom since 1999. Before he became the CEO, Al-Tawasul was run like a bureaucratic organization. Employees were timed when they arrived for work and when the left, decision making was completely top- down and there was use of a strict reward and punishment system to ensure employee performance. Since his appointment, he has radically transformed how the company is run. He created a common vision and mission for Al-Tawasul. When he spoke to the employees about their thoughts about the future of the company, they were honest and open about their ideas and embraced his passion for the company. He ended the bureaucratic systems that had stifled innovation and creativity. His motto was that 'staff should enjoy their work'. To promote staff enjoyment, he introduced incentives and fun activities that improved the morale and increased the productivity of the employees. Dr Sanad introduced an open-door policy where Istaff could simply walk in to the office of any manager, (or even the CEO's office) without an appointment. He sought opinions from staff at all levels. All decisions were taken collectively, managers were required to seek the opinion of staff on any major decision that would affect the company. Everyone respected Dr. Sanad because of his energy, passion and empathy for everyone around him. Within 5 years, the profits of the company soared, the shareholders loved him, the company employees looked at him with honor and respect. He was like a father figure and they were willing to do whatever he asked because they had realized that he would always work for their benefit. 4.3 How would you describe the CEO's leadership style?
