Question:
So, is SPC obsolete? Or does it still have its place? Perhaps, the answer is- it just depends! It's no question that SPC is good at determining where in the process failures occurs. However, some manufacturing processes don't necessarily need this and may prefer a different level of precision when determining defects. KPIs may work just fine for OEMs. Nonetheless, the skills gained from understanding SPC will disproportionately benefit organizations in improving their products' quality over the future. Therefore, SPC itself is not obsolete, even if the method chosen for quality control is not SPC.
