Question:
Students are to propose a submission/report, advocating on behalf of a group of young people/community members in relation to a specific scenario The scenario would relate to situation whereby young people/community are either being discriminated against, disadvantaged or their rights are being violated. The report will be directed at a Local/state/federal body directly relevant to the given scenario. Example scenarios will be provided in VU Collaborate. Students may be able negotiate with the lecturer to use their own scenario but this has to be approved by the teaching staff member
Case study I have chosen:
Post-release programs - You work in a community organization providing support and assistance to people who have recently been released from Incarceration, The target group for the agency is anyone under the age of 30 years and has spent at least one year in custody. You are responsible for developing support programs and activities for groups and or individuals to assist their transition back into the community and minimize the risk of re-offending. One of the most successful programs is a Job placement program that assists individuals in gaining current work experience, and demonstrates their reliability and capacity to take on full-time work. Your employment outcomes from the program are very good with a success rate of about 75 percent in the last year. However, the Department of Justice that funds the program said it is going to stop providing funding saying it is the responsibility of the local job service providers
Important points:
•What is the impact of the decision on the target group
•What rights if any are being denied
•Are there any injustice or inequality happening
•What potential impact can the decision have on the broader community
