Case: A Variety of Projects in the Engineering Discipline 1. UK Port Automation Project with 5G Technology Virtual Technologies, working on behalf of their customer, helped to survey, design, build and test a new 5G trial solution to install a 5G system within a massive big port in the UK. The cellular network was deemed to be private, covering the container storage and crane operating areas of the port. This project looked to test two uses: predictive maintenance of quay cranes using loT sensors and providing communications for remote control yard cranes. The future of the technology being remotely controlled machinery and fault finding considered reducing the costs and increasing productivity for businesses like the port. After the survey and creation of the design, the build team installed 5 sectors of Ericsson 4408 Micro radios, located on two lighting towers. The radios connect over fiber to a 6630 baseband unit in one of the port's commons rooms. Their dedicated team installed the new server core in the customers rack, connecting to the external network and internal fiber patch fields. To power these networks, their team installed a dedicated PSU for the job. They also fitted and connected a GPS antenna for the 5G timing and synchronization. For this radio install, two lighting towers were utilized. The radios all needed power and fiber connectivity which the team installed, involving rigging at heights of 22m. The organizational partner fitted loT sensors to six of the port's quay cranes, which uses 5G technology to transmit data in real time back to the port operations. The team also worked closely with the port authorities 50 as not to disrupt the logistical operations. The project commenced in April 2021 and was finished 7 months later. 5G technology has a huge potential to revolutionize a wide range of UK industries including port management. The 56 network can handle the huge volume of data collected, levels that wouldn't be sustainable over 4G. The newly installed system can now detect anomalies in the cranes and alert the operators in real time, fixing faults before they even happen. The crane automation also negates the requirements for a driver to ascend to the crane each day, reducing the risk of working at height. Now installed, the innovative technology can be monitored for its effectiveness and for future SG rollouts. Virtua Industries Pvt. Ltd. was privileged to have been involved in a forward thinking project, one whose success will greatly enhance port's efficiency in dealing with the cargo. 2. Development of Defect Recognition Software for an Oil Drilling Equipment Manufacturer The Science Soft Technology's customer is a leading manufacturer of drilling equipment for the petroleum industry. The Customer supplies drilling equipment and maintenance services to the petroleum production industry leaders and needed to monitor the condition of the driltbits they offered, providing drill bit wear analysis and timely defects detection. Physical inspection of the drill bits was time-consuming and expensive, so the Customer needed to optimize the condition monitoring process. The Customer chose to employ 3D cameras and needed to develop image recognition software for analyzing the drill bit images. Science Soft delivered an application that uses machine learning andvisual recognition algorithms to detect drill bit defects in the images captured by the cameras and provide recommendations on required drill bit replacement and maintenance. Once launched, the application preprocesses an image and analyzes it to recognize blades and single out individual cutters, as well as to detect blade surface and cutter wear. The application employs an object detection neural network relying on the HCT method to identify cutters. A simple convolutional neural network, a primary algorithm applied for image recognition is used to perform cutter state classification and a separate Mask R-CNN, an algorithm for object instance segmentation is applied to perform blade's surface segmentation and detect blade surface defects, The application displays the results of the analysis as wear percentage and recommends an optimal date for drill bit replacement. The customer got the possibility to optimize drilling equipment condition monitoring and achieve timely detection of emerging drill bit defects. With the knowledge of drill bit replacement dates, the Customer got the chance to streamline their inventory management and lower Inventory hoiding costs. The application also allowed the Customer to reduce drill bit inspection time, reducing downtime and lowering maintenance costs for their clients. The major technology and tools used in this project were: Tensorflow, Keras, OpencV, Scikit-leam and Numpy. 3. Health Monitoring System using 7-Segment Display \& Atmesa Microcontroller This health monitoring system was a very useful system recently developed by two electrical engineers as part of their FYP. The aim of this project was to monitor the health parameters of the patient. This system continuously monitored the heart rate and the temperature reading of the patient under observation. In this health monitoring system project, the students used two 7 segment modules to display the parameters as this display has a greater viewing distance. The patients and doctors can select the upper limit and lower limit for the temperature and heartbeat as well. While monitoring if the temperature is increased beyond the set high limit or is decreased below the set limit then the buzzer sounds and the load turns off. Similarly, when the heartbeat sensor is removed and system detects low heartbeat and buzzer buzzes and the load is switched off. This buzzer can help the patient's well-wishers to take action in an emergency. When the temperature and heart rate come into control the bulb turns on and the alarm gets off. The students judiciously divided the tasks among themselves and monitored the progress in an incremental fashion. Exercised Q.1 What is the recipe of success for the completion of above-mentioned projects? Howe do the terms Planning, Organizing, Leoding and Control would leod up to their timely completion? Q.2. The fomlliarity with which PM knowledge arcas would help in the fruitful accomplishment of above-mentioned arojects
