Submit report in pdf format
Be sure to be neat and explain your steps!!
There are a total of 3 deliverables for the project
o Deliverable 1: Determine the wind loads on your assigned structure
o Deliverable 2: Determine the reduced live loads at ground level and roof level
o Deliverable 3: Utilize Risa 2D OR SkyCiv software to create the shear and
moment diagrams for a floor beam
Refer to Student Details for Project.pdf for individual students building information.
Assumptions/Instructions:
Assume 12 ft height stores
Use ASCE 7-16 building code provided on blackboard.
Assume a flat roof
Assume the building is a plain, rectangular building (no balconies, eaves, etc.)
Assume a fully enclosed building
Assume the floors consist of a 4-inch thick concrete slab with reinforcement.
Assumptions should be stated in presentation
You can use pictures and/or images in your presentation. Be sure to cite them.
Be sure to incorporate concepts that were learned and discussed in the course
Deliverables:
1) Wind Loads
Determine the wind loads on your structure using the ASCE 7-16 building code provided
on blackboard.
Analyze the windward, leeward, and side walls for ONE Direction of Only! (You can
choose which side will be your windward side for analysis)
Determine wind loads using the characteristics listed under your name in Student Details
for Project.pdf
Reference/Specify the formulas/figures/table numbers you used from the ASCE 7-16 in
your calculations.
Calculations must be provided by hand. A wind load program is NOT Allowed!
You are encouraged to use pictures/schematics to aid in your calculations.
Draw (sketch) the building with the final wind load pressures included.
Submit hand calculations of your wind loads and sketch.
2) Reduced live load at Ground level and Roof level
Determine the reduced live load supported by a typical interior column located at
ground level AND roof level for your building using the ASCE 7-16 building code.
Determine the reduced live load using the characteristics listed under your name in
Student Details for Project.pdf
Assume flat-roof live loading is estimated to be 20 lb/ft2
.
Reference/Specify the formulas/figures/table numbers you used from the ASCE 7-16 in
your calculations.
You are encouraged to use pictures/schematics to aid in your calculations.
Submit hand calculations of your reduced live load and sketch of your building and beam
with loads.
3) Utilize Software (Risa 2D OR SkyCiv) to create a shear and moment diagram for a beam
Determine/Calculate the distributed dead and live load in lb/ft on a typical interior floor
beam using the characteristics provided for your building in the Student Details for
Project.pdf
Assume the floors consist of a 4-inch thick concrete slab with reinforcement.
Determine the dead and live loads using the characteristics listed under your name in
Student Details for Project.pdf
Using Risa 2D OR SkyCiv software, determine the shear and moment diagram for a
typical interior beam with the distributed dead and live load in lb/ft you calculated.
Submit the shear and moment diagram from the software.
o You can print the diagrams or use screen shots.
o Be sure to be neat with your work!!
