Robert Daley chronicles the true-life exploits of Robert Leuci, a young cop working undercover for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the New York Police Department in a lengthy investigation into corruption in the criminal justice system.

Read the chapter and answer the following questions:

A. Leuci operates in a dark world of crime and corruption. Identify and comment on at least five examples of behaviour that is ethically problematic. Which of these examples is most problematic and why?

B. At times, this world seems completely amoral. Is that the case? Are there any praiseworthy behaviours, implied codes of conduct or other redeeming factors?

C. When Leuci tells Mandato that he intends to take Maria to dinner, Mandato is not supportive. Knowing what you do about theoretical barriers to acting ethically, what theories could support Mandato's cynicism?

D. At the end we see that Leuci has given up on Maria. Was that the right decision. Use the Potter Box to argue either wayhe was right to do so, or he was wrong.

E. Is the relationship between Leuci and Maria romantic? Are there elements of a love story in this? How would you assess that relationship?
