A deploying circular cross-section beam (an extension arm) moves outwards from a cylindrical guide at constant speed 10 cm/s as shown (not to scale) in Fig. 1 (both from the side and in cross-section). A layer of oil (density p = 900 kg/m³, dynamic viscosity μ = 0.1 Ns/m²) with uniform thickness 4 mm is maintained between the beam and the fixed cylindrical guide. The beam has diameter 10 cm and is pushed outwards by the force labelled F applied at its base labelled P. In its deployment, Point P moves 3 m from A to B where B is a distance 0.5 m from the end of the cylindrical guide.
