Suppose you were given $$10,000$ to build out your dream network to hook up all your devices $($PCs$,$ mobile devices, TVs$,$ game consoles, smart home devices, servers, cars, etc..., $)$ at your dwelling and labor costs are free $($ this includes breaking down and installing cables inside walls, etc. $)$

At minimum, answer these questions:

What would your network look like? Describe or provide a diagram$/$sketch of a floorplan using an online toolLinks to an external site. or feel free to sketch it on paper and snap a photo of it$.$

What kind of cabling would you use and why?

What kind of wireless would you use and where would you place your access points? How many will you need?

Are you going to use any solutions that need ZigBee$/$ZigWave$/$PowerLine$/$MoCA$/$WiFi$/$Ethernet$/$Coaxial$/$Fiber$?$

What intermediary devices would you need?

Consider the number of ports and devices you'll need $($router$,$ switches, modems, access points$).$

What kind of speed are you looking to achieve on your network if you're planning on building something that will last $15-20$ years?

Every component is going to involve some networking standard. Be sure to list out or update your answers as you learn about them in reading your peer's discussions.

Include all the gear that you'll buy, the cost of each, how many of each, and the total cost of your shopping list. Include sales tax in your final total.

A few exceptions and assumptions:

You aren't allowed to keep any cash if you don't spend it all. So you can't say you're going to buy a $$2010/100$ fast ethernet switch and pocket the rest.

labor is free in this dreamworld so you do not need to factor in the cost of hiring someone to build it out for you. Ideally, you're going to put this together yourself.

If you forgot to include something but realize that you should have added something because of a response from your peer, you can add to your network. Just post a response saying so$.$

If you are renting your residence, your landlord is totally cool with you adding in a bunch of cables in the walls and doing things that any landlord would utterly balk at in the real world.
