Process models

Question:

Prepare the Context and System-level Data Flow Diagrams for the simplified Hospital Admissions System as described below. Ensure that all

processes, sources and destinations, data flows and data stores are given appropriate labels.

Patients go to the hospital either with Referral from their GP, or because they have some medical condition, need help & turn up unannounced.

On arrival, Patients undergo an Admission Process, where they supply a GP Referral, or Condition explanation. The System sends Request for Patient Record to the Medical Record Department, authorized to make Enquiry for Existing Patient Record in the Hospital System. The sent Enquiry undergoes quick process of Checking for Existing Record/Creating New Patient Record (for first-time patients) & Updating Notes with the supplied patient info. If Patient has previously visited the Hospital, an Existing Patient Record will be retrieved from PATIENT MEDICAL RECORDS file and used in the process. If patient is for the first time visiting the Hospital, a new record will be created in this process. Output of this process will be the Created/Updated Patient Record, which will be sent back to the Admission Process, where Latest Patient Notes are collated and sent to a Doctor, specializing in the field required.

The Doctor will then send Request for Test(s) to the system, which will be dealt with by a Manage Patient Testing process. Out of this process,

the Doctor's Request for Tests) will reach the Patient, who will come back to the process with Requested Test Sample details. Then, both the

Doctor's Request & the Patient Test Sample details will be sent to a LAB. The LAB will come back to the process with Patient Test Results &

Cost Details. The Patient Lab Test Results will reach the Doctor, who requested them and is tending to the Patient, and the Test Cost Details will be stored in the PATIENT BILLING RECORS file.

Based on the results, the Doctor will come up with Diagnosis Concept, which will undergo a process of Consulting Similar Cases/Research Notes to Confirm Diagnosis. Once the process is completed, the Diagnosis details will be used in a process to Prepare Diagnosis Report & Decide on

Course of Treatment. Out of this process, Treatment Cost details will be sent to update PATIENT BILLING RECORD file, the Diagnosis Report details will be sent to update the PATIENT MEDICAL RECORDS file, and the Patient will be made aware of the Doctor's Diagnosis and Course of Treatment details.

Then, Accounts Department, responsible for billing patients, will send Request for Patient Billing Record, which will be used in a process to

Prepare Bill for the Patient. This process will get Updated Patient Billing details (Cost for Test(s) & Treatment) from PATIENT BILLING

RECORDS file to send Bill to the Patient.
