System Operation & Planning -NLSO Maintains system reliability and provides reliable delivery of power to the load center by monitoring and assessing the adequacy of the bulk power system and other utilities' transmission systems; assessing line loadings, voltage levels and system stability under various operating conditions, system contingencies and planned clearances; by conducting and directing studies using power-now simulation; assessing the level of planning and operating reserves to assure adequate compliance with NERC Reliability Standards; conducting transmission contingency analysis and power flow studies; conducting and directing transmission system reliability studies; conducting analyses of longer-term strategic resource use. Develop and maintain effective training programs, customized for power system operation Use Operator Training Simulator and other tools to prepare power system operators to effectively respond to power system emergencies as well as routine activities. Analyze interactions between HVDC systems the AC network with detailed knowledge of types of system studies and modelling ability is required. Compile training needs, assists with the training budget, coordinates training and monitors training completion for the department. Management of the power system and its resources through coordination of planned equipment outages, development of procedures and instructions, and analysis of power system operation response to abnormal events.
