TASK 2.1: TIME RESPONSE SIMULATION
PROBLEM STATEMENT
MARDI has been working on the Passive Solar Greenhouse that focuses on chillies plantation for the past few months. Within this big scale project, several small groups have been divided based on their specific task. As an engineer from the Mechanisation and Automation Department, you are assigned under the Irrigation System Group. The purpose of irrigation system in this project is to continuously supply water to the plants to maintain the humidity level of the soil. This is realized by applying the concept of open-loop or closed-loop control system. The transfer function of the system is given by:
G(s)=1s2+3s+4
For the open-loop control, a proportional controller is going to be selected. You are asked to simulate the performance of the system MATLAB command. The performance should be clearly explained through the observation on the output response of the system. For the closed-loop control system, you are expected to add feedback into the system in order to monitor the current humidity level of the soil at certain time. For this case, you will need to simulate the performance by using both MATLAB command and SIMULINK which is embedded in the MATLAB. By having these two different methods (open loop vs closed loop), a better check on the results is expected to be achieved. Finally, you will have to decide which control system is suitable for the project better and give your justifications.
Procedures:
Command code for transfer function.
Command code for the open loop. For closed loop system, add gain KP to the open-loop system.
Command code to plot multiple output response for open-loop and close-loop using different color line/ types of line to represent different gain value, KP. Use KP=1,2,3,4&5.
Anaylse and discuss the effect of gain to the output response time in terms of:
a) Rise time
b) Peak time
c)% Overshoot
d) Settling time
e) Final value
f) Steady state error
