Task 2: In manufacturing organization, a well known sorting system is used to sort items that are metals and non metals. However, this system is found to be a bottleneck. Therefore there is a need to improve the productivity. The machine descriptio is as follows. When a product is placed near the conveyor belt, it is sensed by an optical sensor (Os). There is a pneumatic actuator (Ap) to push the item to the conveyor belt and the arrangement is as shown in the Figure 1. It is required to sort two items using an inductive sensor (Is) to check whether the item is metallic or non metallic. If the item is metallic, that item is to be pushed by a pneumatic cylinder ( A1 ) and then it is allowed to fall into a collector (C1). Otherwise, it is to be automatically fallen into a collector (C2) at the end of the belt. The conveyor belt is moving at constant velocity. The time required for the pneumetic cylinder to push an item is 0.3 s and both pneumetic cylinders are single acting spring operated cylinders. C1 OS Is C2 AD Item Ai Figure 1 2.1 What are the analytical techniques that can be applied to explain the performace of the above system. Provide a breif description for each. 2.2 Apply some analytical techniques and evaluate the characteristics of the above system to enhance the performance of the above system. 2.3 Provide some recommendations and suggestions for the optimization of system performances by upgrading or make some changes to the above system. Verify your answer with using analitical techniques
