TASK A: PREPARING A SERIAL DILUTION SET WITH A STEP VALUE OF 2 ("two-fold dilutions"). Make a total of five dilutions counting the original dilution, measuring each in turn with the spectrometer. NOTE: phones and apps vary. You may not be able to read all 5 dilutions. If you get down to a "green" RGB of 255, stop. Step 2. Your 0.50% dye supply is too concentrated for the spectrometer kit, so it first needs to be diluted. Make 25 mL of a 0.050% solution by adding 2.5 mL of your 0.50% dye supply to a 25 ml cylinder and filling with water to the 25 mL line. You may notice that this dilution has a step factor of 10. Place the filled cup into your spectrometer with the green light on, and use your phone app to obtain a "Green" or "G" value. Record this "G" value in your spreadsheet. This is your Sample #1 of this dilution series. Step 3. After you make the measurement, return half of the solution to your 25 mL graduated cylinder to make the next dilution. Fill your cylinder to the 25 ml line. This is Sample #2 of this dilution series. Step 4. DO NOT DISCARD THE REMAINING SOLUTION IN YOUR SAMPLE CUP. KEEP IT IN YOUR BEAKER (or another container from your lab kit). This is so that you have enough of this concentration for the rest of the lab. Step 5. Make sure the sample cup is free of old sample. It might be advisable to wipe it out with a paper towel or cloth. THEN, transfer your second sample from the cylinder to the sample
