You will participate in a role play two other people (other learner, friend, collague, assessor) as an employee of First Access.
Read the procedures for handling incidents and/or cases involving difficult and challenging behaviour - you will need to follow this for each role play.
Read through the role play situation before you begin. Participate in each role play, responding to each situation.
Give the role play instructions to the other people playing playing the different roles. You will need to record this role play on free video conferencing software such as Webex. The role play should be no greater than 10 minutes.
At the end of the role play, you are required fill out an Incident Report.

Role Play 1: Amy
You are employed as a support worker at First Access.
Amy, one of your clients has been very agitated today.
You see her walk up to another resident, Mohammad and begin to yell at him, accusing him of taking her book. Mohammad looks shocked and confused. Amy continues to yell abuse at Mohammad and then picks up a TV remote control and throws it towards him, she misses him and the TV remote smashes on the ground.

Observe the student as they play the role of the support worker and record your observations of their performance in the Assessor checklist. Role 2: Amy - played by another learner, family member, friend, assessor) During the role play you must appear to be very agitated (pacing, fidgeting, frowning, etc). Walk towards the person playing Mohammad and begin to yell at him. Accuse him of stealing your book and tell him that you 'want it back right now!' As you approach him, throw the remote control (or another object) towards him, without directly hitting him. At this point, the person playing the support worker should intervene. You may continue to yell and make accusations toward Mohammad as the support worker attempts to calm you. Follow the support worker's lead and begin to calm down within a few minutes.
