Textbook question. Need help in understanding how this is done. Not using for work other then to further understand the subject.
9.67 The ACT government used Piazza Research to carry out a survey
on consumer attitudes to a ban it had imposed on lightweight
plastic shopping bags. In October 2012, Piazza conducted
telephone interviews of 600 primary shoppers and found that
84% now take re-useable bags to to the supermarket most or
all of the time. Assume that a study was undertaken at the end of 2013 in
other states to see whether the use of alternative bags is lower
than in the ACT. A random sample of 300 shoppers was
observed and 242 used alternatives to lightweight plastic bags.
1. At the 0.05 level of significance, use the six-step hypothesistesting
method to try to test whether the proportion of shoppers
using alternative bags is lower in other states than in the ACT.
2. Use the five-step p-value approach. Interpret the meaning of
the p-value.
3. Discuss the effect that sample size had on the outcome of
this analysis and, in general, on the effect sample size plays
in hypothesis testing.
