The Breakdown:

Students are required to watch the Border Security Video. This is an encounter with a passenger/traveller. There are multiple interactions within the video. Student will write their report solelyon the interaction with the traveller returning from Jamaica. The report should be written in thefirst person (as if the student is the officer). While watching the video, it will be imperative thatthe student take detailed notes on the situation as these will be used later to complete yourreport. It will be good to notate pertinent details such as the date and times of each stage ofthe encounter with the passenger, physical descriptions, actions taken by the officer and thepassenger. If discussing any piece of legislation, then use the APA format in the report as well asin the bibliography. Students will use Turnitin with their submissions to ensure authenticity.Border Security Reports will be submitted to the instructor through blackboard.

Format:

The assignment will consist of a title page, the research content, and a completebibliography (non-annotated).The entire assignment should be between 1250-1500words (not including the title page or bibliography page!). This will be approximately 5-6 pages of content which means there needs to be a focuson the quality of information - you must address everything that took place in thescenario while answering the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. The title page will include the a title, the instructor's name, the student's name, thecourse code, the section code and the word count. These are all required components. The bibliography is a basic reference list of the sources used, for example the CustomsAct as well as the relevant section that applies to that particular part of the scenario.

Lateness: Only bona fide medical reasons with proper documentation will be considered by the professorto accommodate lateness.

Tips/Suggestions:

1) Do not use terminology you do not understand or can explain fully.2) Use the notes that you took while watching the scenario and plan out your reportlogically, as if you were really on the job as the officer and would have to testify to this

in court at a later date.3) Articulate all inferences made i.e. "The traveller's hands were shaking when askedroutine questions. She avoided eye contact numerous time during our interaction. Thesigns exhibited are consistent with someone who is nervous."4) If you are unsure of something, ask! Email the instructor, ask you peers5) Use all of Humber's resources: library, peer tutors, APA guides, and student advisors.
