The data for this part comes from a study that investigated factors that influence the likelihood that a person applying for a job will get called in for an interview.

In the study, fictitious resumes were sent for a randomly selected sample of real job ads posted in newspapers in Spain. The jobs represented 18 different occupations. On each resume submitted, the applicant's sex was randomly assigned to be either male or female.

Out of 2785 resumes assigned the male sex, 303 resulted in requests for interviews.

Out of 2814 resumes assigned the female sex, 217 results in requests for interviews.

Your task is to answer this research question:Is there a difference in the likelihood that male job applicants and female job applicants will obtain interviews?

In your answer, you should:

  • Summarize the relationship between the variables using appropriate visual (i.e. table and/or graph) and numerical summaries.
  • Use an appropriate method of statistical inference (confidence interval or hypothesis test) to answer the research question.
  • Include a short paragraph summarizing the relationship between the variables and interpreting the results of your statistical inference in context. This should include a brief discussion of whether a cause and effect conclusion can be made and to what, if any, population the results can be generalized.
