The Green Energy Assignment :
You are employed by an investment firm in New York City. They hired you because you have an MBA and such employees should understand the world of finance. Your boss is always looking for excellent investment opportunities. His team of professionals handles investments for hundreds of individuals and companies. In the last three years, the investments market has been spotty. Some industries did well; some did not. There have been some mergers and acquisitions. Other companies held off. Big Tech has continued to make strong profit, but a few, especially Facebook, have seen their reputations plummet. This worries your boss and your fellow-employees at the firm.
Your boss wants you to assess the relative merits (that means show them in order of preference) of three industries. First is Green Energy. What is Green Energy? As a finance student, do not give a vague definition. What are the large companies in this field? What are their ticker symbols? What are their prospects for the next few years? What analysts say about them? What is the government doing to make this industry more or less attractive?
The second industry is Telemedicine. How big is it? Does it have an attractive future? Always be specific. Who are the major players? How much money can be earned in telemedicine? The third industry is what might be called Elder Care. Check the statistics on the age of people in the US. Why is Elder Care attractive? What kinds of services are involved? It should include assisted living, medical care for the aged, geriatric medicine and pharmaceuticals for the elderly. For example, which pharmaceutical companies specialize in medicine for the elderly? Don't forget seniors-only housing complexes. What kind of a market is this? Tours and vacations as well as leisure activities should be included. Try to select the most attractive aspects of this sprawling industry. As always, use facts and financial analysis. Avoid opinions. Your boss is looking for success.
