Question:
The Kirkpatrick Model is Standard for Levering and Validating Talent investments. This four step system of training workers has been around for a very long time. The four steps are It has been proven to work through out decades. This system of learning is used in several different industries. One of the most popular method on training that is used these days is on boarding.
I would like to talk about my two different experiences with orientation to a new job. One is with a company called Suburban Propane. When I was new representive I traveled from Tampa Florida to Birmingham Alabama to learning in a class room like setting the how you use different customer service skills they that would be effective for the company. I think that would be a form directive learning. I also has one on one training which is consider to be behavior learning.
On another note, for a different company called Universal Health Services, as a supervisor, I was involved in helping the manager teach the new employees about the rules and regulations. These where rules HR has for our department at the hospital.Basically we let the new employees know what would be expected of them and we informed them of some guidelines. On boarding is like a follow up of orientation.
All in all, I think that based on past performance reaction to finding in keeping good talent has resulted in having on boarding programs in many different organization for the training of new employees.
Do you agree? why or why not?
