The long answer question is an imaginary scenario in which you are hired as an urban planner. You should answer from the perspective of a recently hired urban planner. You do not need to know any real-world planning policies or processes in the City of Chandler or of the communities located in South Chandler to answer this question.

Scenario:

You have been hired as an urban planner for the City of Chandler, Arizona. Your first task is to design a new community that will be built in South Chandler at the intersection of East Hunt Highway and South Dobson Road.

The Chandler General Plan indicates that this community should be planned to meet the following criteria:

• Urban Design Create a community with a sense of character, wayfinding, and legibility
• Housing Provide a diverse range of housing options
• Transportation Ensure high accessibility to employment and educational opportunities
• Health Provide a high-quality environment that prioritizes physical, mental, and social well-being
• Environment Preserve environmental quality and important ecosystem functions

Your Task:

Choose three of the themes from the second-half of PUP 301. These themes are listed above. For each of the themes that you choose, (a) identify what you would include in your community plan and (b) explain how your community plan achieves the objectives in the General Plan. Reference the course content where appropriate. Provide examples to support your answer. Each theme is graded out of 8 POINTS for a total of 24 POINTS.
