For a given user, signaltonoise ratio measurements on these channels indicate that of these channels can support QAM, of them can afford QAM, of them can use QAM, and of them must use QAM, and the remaining channels are too noisy to transport data. Based on DMT modulation, user data are transmitted over these channels in parallel so that the user data rate equals the sum of the data rates over all of these channels.
