The purpose of this assignment is to use intermediate visualization software techniques to analyze data and tell the data story.
Launch the "Automoblies-TEMPLATE" .twb file. This Tableau file should already be connected to the "Automobiles" Excel file. Ensure that these two files are in the same directory. If the data are not in "Automoblies-TEMPLATE" .twb file, use Tableau's data connection tool to connect to the data in the Automobiles Excel file.
Part 1
Create a new dashboard named "MainDashboard."
Resize the dashboard area so that it occupies the entire available screen. Add the following sheets to the dashboard: MPG_Scatter, MPG_Pie, MPG_Column, and MPG_Table. Add the following object to the dashboard: Web Page (URL:www.motortrend.com/car-reviews/)
Resize or move the dashboard panes so that the charts and the web object are conveyed in a meaningful way.
Part 2
Create a histogram for highway MPG on the "MPG_Histogram" sheet.
Use the Tableau default bin sizes and display the frequency counts in the top of each column.
Include a cumulative percentage line on the histogram.
Part 3
Create calculated fields on the "MPG_Table " sheet. Create the following calculated fields in the order as shown below:
Count of highway MPG: Name this field "_CountMPG"
Average of highway MPG: Name this field "__AverageMPG"
Median of highway MPG: Name this field "_MedianMPG"
Standard deviation of highway MPG: Name this field "_StdevMPG"
Coefficient of Variation (CV) of highway MPG (Note: CV = standard deviation/average). Name this field "_CoeffVariationMPG"
Create a calculated field to indicate the skew of each category. Name this field "_ShapeMPG."
Note that if _AverageMPG is less than _MedianMPG, "leftskewed" should be displayed.
If _AverageMPG is equal to _MedianMPG, "normal" should be displayed.
If _AverageMPG is greater than _MedianMPG, "rightskewed" should be displayed.
Hint: The IF, THEN, ELSE IF, and ELSE statements should be helpful here.
Once the aforementioned calculated fields are created, revise the MPG_Table to include the calculated fields in the columns, and Vehicle Size in the rows. Specifically, the columns from left-to-right should be: Vehicle Size, _ShapeMPG, _CountMPG, _AverageMPG, _MedianMPG, _StdevMPG, and _CoeffVariationMPG. Mark the chart by color based on _ShapeMPG.
Part 4
Create another dashboard named "MPGStatsDashboard."
Resize the dashboard area so that it occupies the entire available screen. Add the following sheets to the dashboard: MPG_Histogram and MPG_Table.
Resize or move the dashboard panes so that the charts are conveyed in a meaningful way.
Part 5
Using the Tableau story tool, create a Tableau data story named MPG_Story that summarizes the statistical analysis:
Include the following sheets in the Tableau story: MPG_Histogram and MPG_Table.
Provide a 200-250-word detailed narrative discussion for each of these two sheets in the story. Input the narrative into the Tableau storyboard.
Add the "MainDashboard" at the end of the Tableau story. Rather than summarizing the data in the dashboard, provide a 50-100-word discussion of the advantages of using dashboards in analytics. Input the narrative discussion into the Tableau storyboard.
You are required to submit your completed Tableau *.twb file. Create a .zip file that contains your completed Tableau *.twb file. Submit your .zip file. Ensure that your last name is in your filename.
