The students will be assigned a certain case to analyze. For this semester, the case is Softbank acquiring Sprint in $2013,$ and Sprint's failed attempt to acquire T$-$Mobile, then eventually being acquired by T$-$Mobile in $2018.$ There are two objectives for this final individual case assignment. $(1)$ To assess individual knowledge and case analysis capability for international competition strategies; $(2)$ Some students in BUS$470$ class may feel the group project grade cannot reflect their individual contributions or efforts to the group. Then this is the opportunity for you to make up for the grades to some extent.

There are several ways to define the industries a company is in$,$ depending on how broad or narrow you would like. The industry definition is relatively easy for this case: Softbank, Sprint, and T$-$Mobile $($it acquires Sprint in $2018)$ are all in the "Wireless telecommunication carrier" industry. IBISWorld database can provide you with industry information under North American standard industry classification code $"51721"($For how to use IBISWorld database, see my library research tutorial on Canvas$),$ although the industry report is for the U$.$S$.,$ not global industry.

As Softbank and T$-$Mobile $($including Sprint after it acquires the latter in $2018)$ are both public companies $($their stock tickers are SFTBY in Japan and TMUS in NASDAQ$),$ you can find their detailed financial performances easily in the library databases such as Nexis Uni or Hoover's company profile. In addition, you may rely on Exhibits in the case, and any internet information you can get. Remember Softbank is a Japanese company. Most of its financial statements are in Japanese Yen. But Sprint was owned first by Softbank and then by T$-$Mobile. So it is difficult to find financial information particularly on Sprint.
