Question:
There is no doubt that Steve Jobs was a computer visionary as well as a highly effective corporate leader. When Jobs resigned due to health issues, the company appointed Tim Cook as CEO. After reading the two articles, they have very different views on Cook. One of the articles looks at Cook from a financial aspect, while the other looks at him not only from a financial standpoint but a cultural and innovative one as well.
In "Six Reasons Tim Cook Is Doing A Great Job As Apple's CEO" the author speaks about changes that Cook made to all the stakeholders. As for the customers, new iPhones, Apple watches, iPads, and I Pay have been growing and are good sources of revenue for the company as customers demand these products. "I believe that Apple Pay could continue to grow and be meaningful to the company. Recently I've found Apple Pay to be much easier to use than the new chip credit cards I've received (Jones, 2015). For the employees, a better culture will lead to better innovation and less turnover and that leads to higher satisfaction. Jones (2015) states in the article, "Tim Cook has changed Apple's culture. In many ways it is too early to decide if this is for the better or worse, but I lean to the better. It seems to be more collaborative and less confrontational." Shareholders have seen the addition of stock buy backs and a new dividend which adds a bonus to owning Apple stock. Tim Cook has devised a collaborative plan and is working to improve the overall condition of Apple.
In the other article "All Excuses Aside, Apple's Major Problem Is Tim Cook," Jay Somaney focuses on the company's financials while comparing them to other companies such as Google and Amazon. Somaney speaks about Tim Cook's hiring of executives and their value to the company. Based on the two articles I've read, I feel that Cook's leadership has brought much needed change especially for the culture of the employees.
