There must be audio AND video of the courtroom with the ability to see both of the parties, the Judge, and the jury, if applicable.
Observe at least 60 minutes of a legal court proceeding. The report must include a direct link to the website of the proceeding that you observed. If the proceeding in the link was greater in totality than 60 minutes, you must also include in your report the time stamps of the section(s) you observed.
The report must include a detailed summary of your observations. In so describing, here are some questions/items to address in your report:
Did you observe a completed case or only a portion of a case?
Identify by name and by role all of the people you observed in the proceeding.
What was the legal subject matter? What was the issue of the case?
Was it a civil or criminal case? How did you conclude that it was civil or criminal?
Describe what type of proceeding - was it a motions hearing, a plea, a trial? If a trial, what part?
What were the arguments of both parties?
What was the judge's decision?
What was your overall assessment of the proceeding?
Do you agree with the outcome of the proceeding? Explain why or why not?
Describe in detail how and in what ways your court observation affected your thoughts and understanding about law and the legal system.
