Crisis Context

Boeing is an American aviation company with a rich history specialising in the manufacture of

commercial aircraft. However, over recent years Boeing has come under heavy scrutiny due to

safety concerns around the Boeing $737$ MAX passenger aircraft.

Boeing first began production of the $737$ MAX during $2014,$ where it has since been sold to airlines

around the world. However, during its years of operation, the $737$ MAX has been fraught with

safety concerns most notably because of two high profile crashes leading to the deaths of over

$350$ people. More recently, in January $2024,$ it was also reported that a door blew out of a $737$

MAX aircraft mid$-$flight while passengers were on board. Boeing as a company have therefore

come under heavy scrutiny, resulting in what could be described as a reputational crisis for Boeing.

You are tasked with writing an impartial report evaluating this reputational crisis. Your report

should cover some key considerations including Boeing$$s organisational context, the key factors

that led to the crisis occurring, and recommendations on how Boeing can begin to recover from

such a crisis. This assignment will be covered in detail within seminar $1.$
