This assignment is based on your own organization or an organization that you have worked for in the

past or one where you have intimate knowledge of the workings of the organization. NOTE: always

attempt to relate to the organization where you are currently employed.

You have been appointed as the CIO of your organization, and the governing board has given you six

months to make meaningful and measurable improvements to the IT department, failing which a full

IT outsources will be on the cards.

As with the previous assignment, the goal of the assessment is to identify actions to be taken to define a

consolidated approach to IT service management which will result in a major improvement of IT performance

and value delivery to the organization as a whole!

You have an opportunity to make a presentation to the governing board of your organization, and the CEO

has asked you to prepare a document to get their buy$-$in for your improvement approach. The document

accompanying your presentation must be no longer than five $(5)$ pages and set out actions to implement

IT Service Management best$-$practice and motivate why those actions are appropriate within the

context of your organization.

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT

Recommending the implementation of a tool is NOT acceptable $$ a previous version of ITIL said that a fool

with a tool is still a fool $$ just more dangerous! People solve problems $$ not tools!

This is a four$-$part assignment. The first three parts will help you complete the last task assigned.

Please submit all four parts even though only the fourth part will be formally evaluated. Parts one to three will

provide context.

The assignment is worth $40$ marks.

Your task:

$$ Identify factors $($no special meaning assigned the word $$factors$,$ replace it with $$things$$ if you like$)$ that

should be considered when making your recommendation.

$$ What specific issues $($things$)$ must be solved to make a marked improvement in IT performance?

$$ Which processes and practices do you think should be implemented first? Remember you only have $6$

months, so don$$t start something that will not show definitive results within that period of time.

All of the above you do for yourself, you can$$t do the assignment unless you have answered these questions

for yourself. However, please submit this as an addendum to give me more context and insight into the

organization$/$situation $$ this will not be marked but must be submitted as part of your assignment.

NOW

$$ Prepare a document to present to the governing board explaining your proposed course of action and

motivate each action$/$recommendation you make. The document must be detailed enough to serve as a

take$-$home for executives and to further, explain your recommendations.

$$ Your answer should, describe and motivate your recommended approach. Every recommendation must

be motivated and a clear indication made as to which specific organizational issue or problem currently in

either the larger organization or IT is the intended target for improvement. If you say you should do

something but you don$$t link it to an issue or a problem, you will not get marks!

$$ For each recommendation, please explain what you believe a successful outcome would look like.

$$ Solutions can be anything that forms part of this course not limited to processes and practices.

$$ Added advantage would be if you can also indicate what steps should follow the initial six month

intervention, when and why $($no more than one page please$).$

Scoring:

$$ The assignment will be scored out of $40$ marks.

$$ Document presented should be no more than $5$ pages $($Arial $10$ or larger$),$ well structured, logical and

professionally presented $5$ marks.

Note, the additional background is not part of the five pages, Attach background information that you

think I should know about your organization as an Addendum please ensure that this do not exceed $5$

pages either. That means that the maximum allowed pages for submissions are $10$ pages BUT only

the first $5$ pages of your recommendation to the board will be marked and earn you points.

$$ A Minimum of ten actions to implement during the next $6$ months to turn the current situation around $$

this must be motivated and in line with the theory taught in this course $($no matter how good your

recommendation $$ if not based on the content of this course, it will earn you ZERO marks$)20$

$$ Consideration for resource requirements and availability, and the realistic application of available
