This assignment is designed to help you synthesize and utilize major sociological topics we've covered throughout the semester, with an emphasis on social class, gender, race/ethnicity, and intersectionality. For this essay, you will have the opportunity to further cultivate your sociological imagination, document, and then use the concept of \"intersectionality\" to reflect on your life. Please read and follow the step-by-step instruction carefully: Take a few quiet moments to think about how you become who you are today, observe your surroundings, and then take 4-6 photographs to demonstrate your life(You dont send photos but act they are). The Covid-19 pandemic has had dramatic impacts on the world, and perhaps your life has been changed as well, so feel free to discuss how the pandemic affects you. You are the author of your own life, and you know the best, but to just give you a few ideas to start with, try to think of the different \"roles\" you have (e.g., as a college student, as a parent, a sibling, a worker, a friend, your parents' child, an NYC resident, an American, an immigrant, etc.). The photos could be a portrait of yourself or people, a scene, objects, or anything that's meaningful to you. There are endless possibilities, and you should be creative to come up with your own ideas and write your own story. When you curate what photos to put into the essay, you need to include four mandatory topics: social class, gender, race/ethnicity, and intersectionality. In other words, you need to have at least one photo for each topic. For example, there are news reports indicating that women's burdens at home dramatically increased during the pandemic, as did domestic violence cases. Have you noticed any changes in your own life? What about race/ethnicity? Anything about social class? What about your food purchase and consumption? After having at least four photos for each mandatory topic, you can choose 1-2 sociological topics (e.g., gender socialization, culture, etc.), but this part is optional. Write a brief paragraph (5-7 sentences) under each photo to describe what intrigues you to take the photo, your observation, and your reflection. You can, of course, write more if you like. In your own words (do NOT copy/paste from my PPT lecture or other sources), define the concept and explain how this picture demonstrates the concept as it relates to your life. You should use sociological terms and concepts from the class. Here are some examples for each mandatory topic: m Stratification: class, poverty, life chances, status, class categories (upper, middle, working, working poor, etc.), social mobility, structural inequality, power. m Gender: gender/sex, gender inequality, gender pay gap, patriarchy, cis and transgender, work and family, occupational segregation, gender essentialism, sexism, feminism, patriarchy/matriarchy. m Race/Ethnicity: institutional racism, racism, prejudice/discrimination/stereotypes, racialization, double consciousness, microaggression
