This assignment will help you meet CLO1, Determine the proper channel for information delivery, CLO3, Demonstrate effective listening skills, CLO4, Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills appropriate to the workplace, and CLO5, Analyze group interaction and work to make the group more effective.
Attached is a form that you will use to analyze how a group that you are currently working with - at work, at school, at church, a social group - is communicating. Please start this assignment early in the semester because the topics in the form will help you analyze how well or not so well the group is working and hopefully give you some ideas on how to improve the group interaction.
A few things to remember about group work:
Everyone's input is important! You are there to add your ideas to the discussion. Often my students will say, "I never thought of it that way," so your perspective is important.
Keep the group on topic. Social interaction is important when working in a group over time but that shouldn't prevent getting things accomplished every meeting. How frustrating it is when you sit through a meeting for 60 minutes or so and nothing ever happens!
An agenda might help. I've attached a sample agenda to give you some ideas on how to prepare on. This might help your group stay on task.
