This chapter described the purpose of EA components and artifacts within an EA framework. Using the EA$6$ Framework as an example, EA components were described as replaceable elements within the framework that come and go with changes in strategy, business services, and new designs for IT resources involving information flows, applications, and the technology infrastructure. Descriptions were provided of the types of EA components that exist at each level of the framework. Chapters $7$ and $8$ will focus on current and future views of the EA artifacts that describe EA components at all levels of the framework.
