In my opinion, strategic management should be more of a top-down process in a company as the basic strategic management process for future direction of business. Generally strategic management process focuses on the planning, business operation, execution and monitoring and evaluation of the whole process of business with the targeted goal. A top-down strategic management process of a firm will help the organization to formulate the strategies used by it for analysis of current state of the organization where the organization can analyze its internal and external business environment and plan. It will define the vision and mission statement of the company and accordingly help it to set its future goal. A top-down strategic management process is appropriate to identifying the difficulties in achieving its future goal and making the effective plan that how the company can overcome from those difficulties. And also identifying that what are the resources required for the achieving the goal and how the company can get the required resources. It can help the company in making the detailed plan and step by step execution plan to achieve its goal. The most important factor that a top-down process can do more effectively than bottom-up process is; implementation of the strategic plan with assigning the responsibility and fixing the accountability of the key personal in the plan and monitoring and evaluation of the whole process with the targeted goal.
