This discussion board assignment requires that you successfully complete two posts in order to earn full credit: Part 1: Respond to the question below and share YOUR thoughts in at least 250 words. Part 2: Respond to a post made by one of your peers and share YOUR thoughts in at least 150 words. Be sure to contribute something to their post and be respectful in doing so. Question: What do you consider the relationship between personal ethics and business ethics to be? Are they or should they be the same? Include an example to justify your answer.

response:

I believe that there is a direct correlation between a persons personal ethics and the way they carry themselves ethically within their business as well. Its actually quite important as well. Managers cant expect to lead people in a business context, or otherwise, if they arent very ethical. Its hard to say that you believe in your business ethics code if you dont live by a similar code in your private life. You cant really tell someone how they should behave off the clock, thats why you should make sure that before you hire someone you get a real sense of who they are when theyre not at work. Then you wont have many issues in this area. For example, if you are working at Chick-fil-A, theyre purpose as stated on their website: To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A. But after work a few coworkers and the top manager decide to go out to eat and the manager is drinking obsessively and using profanity, that is going to set the tone that once youre not at work you can behave however you want. Which will in turn represent Chick-fil-A in a negative light. Personally, I would probably not work at a business that I didnt agree with the way they operate or their mission statement. Its hard to change who you are, and then that only lasts so long.
