This discussion board has brought some things to light for me, Ill admit its very rare that I look at a rubric for an assignment. I recognize the downfall in this and am going to work during this class to look at rubrics before I work on an assignment as well as before I turn it in. I think my biggest issue with working off rubrics is that sometimes the rubric is poorly thought out and put together for example, they say things like shows understanding of said topic. Which can be frustrating because maybe I feel as though I understand the topic and explained it in a way that made sense. I recognize this is up for interpretation by the teacher, but I dont feel its good wording for a rubric. Now, onto the real focus which is why you should look at the rubric of an assignment and how doing so will help you be successful in your classes. Rubrics are meant to give you a brief description of expectations broken down into different parts. Most rubrics are broken down into sections and grade you will earn if your assignment falls within these guidelines. This will help you be successful in your assignments because you can see how things are broken down and what is required to earn each grade. Looking at the rubric before starting an assignment will be helpful because it should outline the most important parts of the assignment so you will know what to focus on. After doing the assignment look at the rubric and try to give yourself an honest grade, critique yourself and see what you can fix. As stated earlier Im not great at looking at the rubric but I do typically have someone proofread my assignments. I could start giving the proofreader my rubric and have them give me feedback off that. Knowing what your goals of an assignment are will help guide you towards them.
