Ethical Obligation - Diya

COLLAPSE

I believe it is an organization's ethical obligation to share all information about the planned changes with employees. It can foster a sense of distrust if employers are withholding important information from their employees. Also, even if the changes are small, it would be helpful to let employees know so that they feel in the loop with what is going on. If they are not provided information directly from the organization and they hear it from their social network at work instead, it may make them question the information that is presented. This can resistance to the planned changes and misunderstandings. The textbook states "When the news is volatile, suspicions may arise as to the person or person behind the message" (Organizational Behavior, 2017, Chapter 8.3). This shows that it is important for the organization to inform their employees so that they are provided accurate and up to date information. If an organization is not transparent about all the planned changes, employees may be distrusting and wonder if they have ulterior motivates. It can also be damaging to the company if employees raise concerns about why they haven't been informed about certain changes that directly affect them, which may in extreme cases, lead to legal consequences.

Hello Diya,

I agree with you that it is important for organizations to share the information with employees. Companies that are transparent and gather respect from their employees are more likely to keep their employees around for longer. When do you think that the company should tell the employees the information? Do you think that they should tell them as soon as they get notified of the change or do you think that the organization should wait until it gets close to time for the change?

Hello Brittani,

Thank you for your response to my post. I believe that companies should disclose all the information about the planned changes right away. It allows employees time to process and anticipate the changes. Also, there is time to address concerns without employees feeling they are under pressure to just accept the change. If it is disclosed closer to the time the change is implemented, employees may feel overwhelmed and upset that the organization waited last minute to provide the information.

Hi Diya,

It is very true and I also agree that organizations have the ethics of informing employees when making organizational changes within the organization, effective communication is important so that they do not have inappropriate thoughts about the changes they want. The first thing to do is to communicate to the work team to avoid any inconvenience and make them part of the change because with their help a safe and successful change is more convenient and necessary.
