Go to the website of the National Inventory of Collateral Consequences of Conviction. https://niccc.nationalreentryresourcecenter.org/ Then, search for the jurisdiction of Virginia. You will find literally hundreds of collateral consequences of conviction. Poke around a bit, and you can filter by type of collateral consequence if that helps to narrow the pool.

Choose one and describe it. Say what the restriction is (for instance, is it a business license or permit? an occupational restriction? background check requirement?). If it only applies to a specific category of criminal convictions, say that. Is it discretionary or automatic? Does it have a time period? You may wish to click through to read the actual Virginia Code (VAC) provision in the law, if that is helpful.

No need to choose something that is overly technical or seems too difficult to describe (unclear or confusing answers may receive a reduced grade). There's plenty of other options. I'll put a sample of your answers in the next Weekly Email so that we can see the breadth of collateral consequences.
