This is Homework assignment #4 recapping the Red Tomato/Green Thumb problem that was demonstrated in class on Monday 9 March. The objective of this assignment is essentially to exactly reproduce the example that was done in class. Refer to the attached Microsoft Excel example file, and use Microsoft Excel Solver to:
1. Follow the directions in the yellow Chapter 9 box to generate outputs for: A base case, equivalent to textbook figure 9-1. A promotion in January, equivalent to textbook figure 9-2. A promotion in April, equivalent to textbook figure 9-3. A promotion in January, with demand increase (Consumption) set to 100%, equivalent to textbook figure 9-4. A promotion in January, with demand increase (Consumption) set to 100%, equivalent to textbook figure 9-5. A new base case with Base Price set to $31, and demand increase (Consumption) set to 100% A promotion in January with Base Price set to $31, and demand increase (Consumption) set to 100% A promotion in April with Base Price set to $31, and demand increase (Consumption) set to 100%
2. Don't forget to unhide any hidden rows! Capture screen shots for each of the above cases and paste them into separate, specifically labeled, Excel Worksheets in your file, just as we did in class.
3. You should wind up with 8 new tabs in your file, each with an output that has numbers matching up with Table 9-3 in the text book..
4. In a separate text box, on the first tab of your file, answer the following questions: If there is a small expected increase in consumption due to a promotion when is the best time to do a promotion? If there is a large expected increase in consumption due to a promotion when is the best time to do a promotion? As margins decline, what happens to promotions done during a peak promotion time?
5. Please address all aspects of the assignment carefully and completely; label all of your answers; put a proper header on your submittal with your name and identifying information; make it look appealing and professional!
