This is quite a broad question about artificial intelligence, but I can't seem to find much info when I googled for it.

I wanted to find out some background to the DeepMind paper "Human-level control through deep reinforcement learning", in particular:

- What other research papers in this problem area have gone before this? Please specify the problem area(s), and provide specific details, not generic AI. e.g Is it under AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)?

Also, please give references to the previous papers or research in answer and provide explanation for these sources.
