This lab exercise aims at introducing the agile methodology and its core concept of team building. We will simulate a software development project employing the agile methodology and will learn working in teams and task prioritization for achieving maximum Value Addition. The goal of the first exercise is to build an information system (software application) realizing the most VALUE ADDITION (No coding will be required as we only simulate the development and random events in the project). You will be provided with a list of all features of the proposed information system and their cost. In addition, you will also receive main personas for your information system with some basic user stories. Based on that your goal will be to prioritize the features. Each team has a budget of 2500$ to pick desired features for the Project. Divide the total budget by the number of members in the team to come up with individual budget for each team member (for example a team of 5 will have an individual budget of 500$ each), or you can pick the features together as a team thorough discussion and brainstorming. Each feature has a cost (column D) and it might bring some added value to our project so we have to prioritize within our budget to pick features that would bring maximum ADDED VALUE. Your success will be measured based on the total added value of the system you built (not monetary but value for the client) calculated based on the added value of each feature revealed at the end of the game. Each team receives these items (in the accompanying Excel Lab1.xls): (1) User Stories, features and their prices. (Sheet 1) (2) A sum of play money. The sum of all players money is less than the total of all feature prices this introduces scarcity and forces your team to make trade-offs because its not possible to purchase all items on the list. (sheet2) The added value of the features should be revealed from within the Excel sheet (**Expand column H of the sheet after you finish the exercise to reveal the Added Value for each feature and the total for your teams selection and PLEASE DO NOT OPEN IT BEFORE!!).
