This module, the Learning Module, will be without a face-to-face lecture, although I do have MS Power Points (PPT) with notes for you for the two sections, Learning Module 1 and 2, of this module to review. The notes are located in the "Notes" section of the PPT, which can be found in three different ways, of which, one is to pull the lower bar of the slide in the PPT up which will expose them, or to click on "Notes" in the bottom menu bar at the base of the PPT, or the top menu icon called "View" you can click on "Notes Page" which will provide you with both the slide and its notes.

Learning Module 1: Shared Value and Sustainable Development

As we have previously discussed in this text, and continue to in this module, which discusses the shared value and sustainable development as a new approach to learning and managing, replacing more traditional forms of corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR is briefly reviewed with its shortcomings prior to introducing the concept and model of creating shared value. Explored are the roles that various stakeholders play in the creation of shared value, including the United Nations and its set of 17 sustainable development goals. As many of you have taken BUS 005, Introduction to Business, or a course similar, this Learning Module will be a review for you, although a little more in-depth. It begins with exploring the foundation and importance of entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, with emphasis on the personal characteristics of entrepreneurs and explaining its importance globally. Then to explore the process of starting a business or franchise. Next a review of the basics of writing a business plan, choosing an appropriate legal structure, obtaining financing, and creating the "right" type of organizational culture and design. Last, the discussion of some reasons why businesses fail.
