This week, the material you should be working on is Experiment #6 - Molecular Geometry. In the experiment this week, you will be using an online simulation to look at the different molecular geometries of different compounds. The bulk of the experiment is Part A, which looks at 14 different compounds. For each compound, you can type the name into the simulation and bring up an interactive model of the compound. Based on the model, you can then provide the Molecular Formula, Electronic Geometry & Molecular Shape based on VSPER, the bond angles, hybridization and if the molecule is polar. You will also draw the lewis structure for each compound. These Lewis Structures can be uploaded as picture files directly onto the PDF. Please open the pdf in Adobe Reader to use this functionality, and not through a web browser. The second part of the experiment has you look at the different structures of the Amino Acids. The amino acids are the building blocks of different proteins in biology, and while they have the same backbone structure, they each contain different side chains. You can type the name of these into the simulation to see the shape of the molecule
