This week we examine how to put the first things first by putting the main points in the first few sentences. For this discussion, select one of the following laws and write a memo to human resources or your managers informing them of the law. When responding to your classmates, tell them if they have a good subject line and if their format is easy to read. Tell your classmates if they got right to the point and if their subject line needs to be revised.

1. New York City's Stop Sexual Harassment Act, will require employers with 15 or more employees to conduct annual anti-sexual harassment training for all employees.
2. New York'sWestchester County Earned Sick Leave Law, will require employers to provide all employees (including part-time, exempt and seasonal employees) who work in Westchester County 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per year.
3. Employers in Connecticut are prohibited from asking (or directing a third party to ask) about an applicant's salary history unless the applicant has voluntarily disclosed such information.
