This week's Application Forum will take us back to the Leslie Brinkman case. Be sure to review it in order to participate in this Forum. This is another Q&A Forum. You will see classmate's posts within 30 minutes of your first post. After studying the situation at Versutia for a few weeks, the CEO, Leslie Brinkman finally requests that you help look into the company's declining performance. She knows that you are now in an MBA program and are taking a class in Management and Leadership. She especially wants you to help her from a resource management perspective. She has made a decision to hire a coach to assist with her leadership style. You go back to the office pondering what you would suggest to Leslie in the upcoming meeting and all of a sudden, mind the concept of the Capacity Quadrant comes to and you wonder whether Leslie Brinkman can use a bigger boat or should deal with a smaller shark. She did ask you whether she grew assets too quickly or added to the staff too quickly, or added too many long and short positions (Battilana & Kaplan, 2007 p. 11). Using the Capacity Quadrant, you start by broadening the scope of Versutia's activities and examining what's important to the company. As you gain understanding of these issues, you start to formulate a plan to optimize the organization's operating efficiency and perform work of highest value. With that plan in hand, you are ready to suggest not only what Leslie needs to do, but to recommend how she integrates the recommended plan by implementing a good governance practice and be ready to deal with changes that inherently will happen in the hedge funds business. In your first post, share your thinking about each of the four quadrants, and your initial plan. You will likely need to do some additional research. I am looking for your thinking process as you work through the Capacity Quadrant. If you have questions about the Capacity Quadrant, raise these in your first post so that we can all learn from each other. In subsequent posts, comment on each other's thinking and how you can help Leslie Brinkman make the best decision. Should she have built a bigger boat? How can she avoid the sharks?
