This writing assignment is a research paper and self-assessment. You may use chapter Personality of the textbook as an additional resource. A necessary ingredient for career success is self-awareness and understanding. Each of us has strengths and development areas both in skills and in behavior. In this assignment you will conduct academic research to develop insights on how personality, behavior and career success are connected. You will then reflect on your personality type to identify and analyze the characteristics that will help you succeed according to your research, as well as the characteristics that may hold you back. For this assignment you will: 1. Perform a Big-Five and Myers-Briggs personality tests as well as any relevant Self-Assessment in Connect. 2. Read the article: Could Your Personality Derail Your Career?, Chamorro-Premuzic, Tomas. Harvard Business Review, September-October 2017. Identify and analyze your dark side personality traits. 3. Solicit (truthful!) input from friends & family on their perceptions of your personality. Analyze the similarities and differences between your perceptions and those you have interviewed. 4. Analysis of the interrelationship between your self-analysis and the academic research on workplace/career success Your writing assessment will be a formal academic report, using professional language, correct sentences, and paragraph structure. It will also incorporate research from at least 2 scholarly articles that have been cited in your paper at least twice. You may write in the first person (e.g. I). You are advised to use the following format: A. Introduction. Provide background and context for this topic (be brief), clearly state the key, specific idea of this paper (think of this as your thesis statement) and a very brief summary of the arguments that support your idea. B. Analysis. Include the following: analysis of your results from Myers-Briggs and Big-Five personality tests analysis of your dark side personality traits feedback from friends, family, past employers about your strengths, weaknesses, or overall personality; reconcile similarities and differences analysis of the interrelationship between your self-analysis and the academic research on workplace/career success C. Conclusion and Implications. Summary comments that restate your thesis. Provide the so what? of all your work - explanation of how this information might impact you going forward (career selection, personal development goals, etc.). Any next steps? Provide some specifics. The length of the paper should be approximately 1300 to 1500 words (main body of the paper, not including titles, citations, etc.). Your report will be mainly evaluated based on your critical and original thought (not quoting theory extensively, for example), your writing organization & style and your level of research. You must use proper APA citations to reference your work. The sources you use must be cited and used throughout your submission, including in-text.
