So far, you have learned how to shape and structure your body paragraphs. Keeping all the things you learned in mind, now it is time to start writing your body paragraphs. This assignment will be about the first reason in your thesis statement. For example, if your thesis is "Higher education should be free for everyone because 1-2-3", then this is your opportunity to explore what your first reason is.

Parts of the Body

Topic sentence: main idea of whole paragraph

Top bun of quote sandwich: supporting idea

Quote (s): specific explanation of the supporting idea. It's best if it's an example, fact, or statistic. The quote should really SHOW, NOT TELL. Show what you mean!

Bottom bun of quote sandwich: the bottom bun is the analysis and it creates unity and coherence by explaining how the evidence ties back to your thesis. "In other words, this evidence suggests, this shows.."

Concluding sentence: the concluding sentence should summarize all of the ideas. A good idea is to lead the reader into the next point. You can connect the two ideas in the concluding sentence or the topic sentence of the next paragraph.
