To ensure that due diligence is being carried out, with regards to workplace safety, employers must implement a plan, identify possible workplace hazards, and identify the appropriate corrective action to prevent these hazards and incidents. Identifying who is responsible is also important, as roles and responsibilities can be defined and further followed.

Occupational health and safety policies, practices, and procedures should be written down and documented to ensure that due diligence is clear and concise. Appropriate training and education, in regards to health and safety in the workplace, is needed to ensure due diligence and that all employers understand that risks and hazards associated with their workplace and how to prevent incidents. Supervisors must also be trained and educated to ensure competence and understanding of policies, practices, and procedures. Employers can provide orientation to young and new employees, meet regularly to discuss health and safety in the workplace, inspect workplace areas to identify potential hazards, and pay attention and monitor employees to ensure that they are following policies and procedures. To ensure due diligence, employees should have an investigation reporting system or program to report any incidents or potential hazards. All reports of potential hazards or incidents should be acted upon, and documented accurately.
