To create a new style based on document formatting and have it appear in the Styles gallery, you would do the following steps in order:

In the mini toolbar that appears, click Styles.

In the Create New Style from Formatting dialogue box, name your style and click OK$.$

$-$

Choose Create a Style.

$-$

Right$-$click the text for which you want to base a new style.
